Wine of The Week Recommendation

Trinity Hill Syrah, 2011
Hawkes Bay, New Zealand
£14.25 @ Grape & Grind, Gloucester Road, Bristol

THE WINE - A mouthwatering and proudly fruity Syrah based wine from Hawkes Bay, New Zealand. It's got lots of blackberry fruit in the nose and mouth, and a good measure of cracked black pepper character - typical of Syrah (Shiraz) grown in a more temperate climate. A small inclusion of the white variety Viognier gives the wine beautiful, slightly floral perfume.
FOOD PAIRING - A lovely drinking wine on its own, but should pair well with a Chicken Tagine, mild tomato based Indian curries, tomato based pasta, game or red meat dishes.
REGION - The Hawkes Bay region is on the East coast of North Island New Zealand. An historic region, planted way back in the mid 19th Century. It became famous for the Cabernet Sauvignon it started producing in the 60's and 70's. It has a variety of soil types from rich alluvial to poor and less fertile gravel soils, with the ripest grapes growing on the poorest soils such as the Gimblett Gravels subregion northwest of Hastings. The climate here is warm(ish) with hot summers and cool winters. Chardonnay,Cabernet Sauvignon & Merlot (the region is renowned for it's 'Bordeaux Blends'), Syrah and even Malbec grapes are grown here.
Enjoy!
